The free Wave Observer plugin from Pressplay Music has been updated to version 1.4.0. This is an audio analyzer plugin, namely an oscilloscope for monitoring audio analysis. In mid-December 2020, the plugin was launched.

The Wave Observer update to version 1.4.0 includes a reorganization of the tabs and the GUI, as well as the addition of a ‘Legend’ on/off switch in the ‘Graphics’ tab, as well as keyboard shortcuts and a ‘tab Help’ that contains the entire list of shortcuts that will assist us in adjusting and controlling the wave observer parameters. Additionally, the label of the ‘Freeze’ option has been modified to ‘Play/Pause’ (button shows the corresponding icons).

Wave Observer

The Wave Observer plugin has a variety of unique capabilities that set it apart from other free oscilloscope plug-ins. You can use it to visualize the MixBus, Mastering, individual tracks, and even sound design.

Wave Observer provides a continuous and fluid display of the input signals for Left, Right, and Stereo signals, as well as a large time range for signal visualization ranging from 1 millisecond to 4 seconds, as well as an algorithmic stabilization button to fix the particular waveform on the screen.

It also has a Play/Pause function, which appears to be the oscilloscope’s most interesting feature. When activated in “pause” mode, we can scroll through the history, which can be useful for taking a closer look at the waveform of the audio signal in the time domain and locating possible problems in the transients.

Observation Modes

It also includes two observation modes to accommodate differing audio signal tracking times. The envelope mode, also known as “Mode Envelope,” provides us with long sweep periods that are ideal for evaluating signal dynamics.

It contains a peak signal meter, high-resolution display support, and a graphical user interface that may be customized (resizable interface and customization with color themes).

• This plug-in can be quite useful for individuals who are just getting started in music production and are learning about compression. For example, in a track, you can introduce a Wave Observer, a Compressor, and another Wave Observer to monitor how your audio signal changes as you compress it.

It can also be useful when mixing a Drum by focusing on the Snare or Kick and adjusting the compressor and equalizer plugins we’ve inserted in these tracks, or when using Wave Observer in the Master Bus to have a visual guide to see the dynamic range of the signal and help you determine how much compression your track needs.

Here are some additional features:

  • peak level meter
  • support for high-dpi / retina displays
  • UI customization (window scaling and color themes)

Download 'Wave Observer' For FREE

The Wave Observer plugin can be downloaded for free from the developer Pressplay Music’s official website (Linked Below). In addition to the Wave Observer plugin, there are two other free Pressplay plugins available.

Wave Observer is available in VST, VST3, and AU formats for Windows 64-bitMac 64-bit operating systems.

Final Thought

Try “WaveObserver” if you need to examine your waveform for minor distortions or phase problems. It allows you to see the waveform as well as the envelope of the waveform, as well as monitor the left, right, or stereo channels.

You may adjust the measurement window’s speed and expand the waveform for a better view. Changing the general colour and tweaking the size of the plugin’s window can also change the look. Finally, if you need to focus on a certain point of the music, you may freeze it.

Wave Observer is a great free method to add a waveform visual to your toolset if you don’t have an oscilloscope or a plug-in with one.

The goal is to employ these strategies to improve your attention, speed up your results, and gain a better knowledge of how each step affects your sound. You won’t need them after that since you’ll know what to listen for.

So get a copy of “Wave Observer”, load it up with your favourite saturator, clipper, and compressor, and see if you can learn more about it.
