QuickBass (€99), a bass guitar processing plugin for Windows and macOS, is now available for free. QuickBass is a bass guitar processing plugin that does it all. An EQ, a compressor, a doubler, saturation, and a sub-bass booster are all included.

The QuickBass installer has been updated to version 1.3, which now contains QuickBass Free. QuickBass’ free edition isn’t your typical freeware application. It’s effectively a “lite” version of the complete software, free of annoyances like noise bursts and timeouts.
QuickBass serves as a fully functional 15-day trial after installation. After the trial period has ended, the plugin continues to function in a free “second-hand” mode. The free mode has the same essential functions as the paid mode, but the GUI is missing most of the knobs. It’s the software equivalent of buying used studio equipment and discovering that the previous owner had a habit of turning the knobs until they came off.
QuickBass Free allows you to apply signal Compression, Saturation, and Doubling, but fine-tuning choices are limited. Only the saturation DRY/WET level and compression intensity can be changed. However, the basic algorithms are the same as in the full version of the plugin, thus QuickBass Free can still be used to remedy some common bass guitar mix difficulties.
In addition to Input and Output gain controls, a Preset manager, a bypass switch, and a pair of VU Meters, the plugin includes a preset manager, a bypass switch, and a pair of VU meters. The sole reminder that you can purchase the plugin to unleash its full power is a button in the upper-right corner.
And here’s the catch: the free edition includes all of the full version’s presets, and they sound identical in QuickBass Free. As a result, you can still fine-tune the plugin by choosing different presets. Another appealing aspect of the deal is that you do not need to register in order to receive the installer. On the product page, click the “Try it for free” option, download the installer, and you’re ready to begin.
The same technique was utilized by United Plugins for their FrontDAW and Royal Compressor plugins, and we think it works rather well. It gives you a taste of the complete software before switching to the free version, which nevertheless provides good value.

Final Thought
We just reviewed United Plugin’s free edition plugin called Front DAW, and now we’re back with another great one, the QuickBass. To be honest, United Plugin is one of the few plugin development companies I trust, and their products are excellent and very affordable.
The QuickBass is designed specifically for bass guitar, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used in other situations. Try it out on Kick, Synth Bass, or other instruments to see what you can come up with. The saturation gives the low-end a nice warmth and harmonics while also making it sound more solid.
Although the complete version will become a 2nd hand version after 14 days and will have certain limits, I feel that even with those limitations, this would be an excellent bass processing tool to have in your toolkit. So you are the only person who can tell you how good is something is. Try it out, play about with it, and see how you think.
