OSS Limiting Amplifier 176 plugin by Analog Obsession. Almost every time Analog Obsession announced a new plugin, someone would inquire when the OSS Compressor would get an upgrade, and for all of them, that day has already arrived.
The OSS compressor has been updated to version 5.0, with improvements to the circuit architecture and DSP, 4x Oversampling, reading of knob values, and compatibility with Mac Catalina and Big Sur (Intel / M1) operating systems.
The ‘OSS Limiting Amplifier’ is based on the Retro Instruments 176 Limiting Amplifier, which was inspired by Bill Putnam’s 1960s classic, the UA 176.
Analog Obsession is based on the Retro because, in addition to reproducing a “True” to the original 60s model sound, the Retro added new features desired by modern studios, such as a Sidechain High Pass filter and the ‘interstage’ switch, which allows you to get more compression colors, ideal for tracks. of Bass and Voices “Hoarse”.
All of these capabilities are emulated in Analog Obsession, as well as others that provide the OSS Limiting Amplifier (variable-mu tube) a bit more variety.
The ‘INPUT’ knobs (internally compensated with a range of 0 to 60 dB), ‘OUTPUT’(+/- 30 dB), ‘ATTACK & RELEASE’ controls, ‘RATIO’ control (2, 4, 8, 12), as well as the emulated features HPF (Sidechain High Pass Filter) (20 to 500 Hz) and the switch ‘INTERSTAGE’ can be used to adjust the compression of the incoming signal (transformer bypass switch between stages).
‘MID F’(frequency selector control from 500 Hz to 10kHz), ‘MID G’(control to increase / attenuate compression by +/- 6 dB for ‘MID F’), the ‘HF / FLAT’ control adjusts a high frequency compression (0 to -10 dB), and finally the MIX control (Dry / Wet) and the ‘EXT-SC’(External Sidechain) switch are all features that Analog.
