Gem Mod by Overloud

The Italian audio plugin development company Overloud has released the new “GEM MOD“ plugin, which is available for FREE until September 27, 2021, then which will cost $99.00.

The Gem Mod plugin is the younger brother of Overloud’s new ‘Modula’ plugin, which is an effect that contains the emulation of 3 of the most famous modulation units, all in one plugin.

But, for the time being, we’ll only speak about Gem Mod, which is a plugin that emulates Roland’s renowned “chorus” modulation unit Dimension D.

While the GEM MOD plug-in is based on the Dimension D analog model, Overloud expands on the original hardware’s features and blends digital flexibility with analog processing’s flavor (Hyper-realistic simulation of the original unit thanks to fourth-generation DSP technology). Gem Mod simulates all “modes,” including the different button combinations.

“All main parameters can be dynamically controlled by the input envelope. The effect will “breathe” depending on the level of the input signal. This is particularly desirable in electronic music!”

In addition, input envelopes may control all parameters, we have saturation control of the input stage (Input) with the production of “super musical” harmonics, LFO forms can be modified, and modulation rates can be synced with our project’s BPM.

Gem Mod claims low CPU use and has been tested on a Macbook Pro Retina in over 1000 instances. Undo-redo and A/B comparison options are also included.

“Thanks to the analog modeling design, it is possible to virtually modify the original circuit and change the behavior of the LFO and filters while maintaining the character of the unit. You can experiment with LFO shapes other than the original ones, to change the movement of the modulation, or add resonances to transform the chorus into a flanger.”

Final Thoughts

OverLoud is well-known for its high-quality audio plugins. I’ve used some of their other products, like the COMP670 COMPRESSOR LIMITER, COMP G, and DOPAMINE, and I have to admit, their emulation plugins sound excellent.

The GEM MOD is without a doubt one of the finest emulations of the classic “Roland modulation unit Dimension D” available. The first model was a huge hit in the industry.
